    COSTSCompulsory Pilotage.
SIR ROBERT PHILLIMORE. In this case the defendants, by their answer, denied that there was any neglect on the part of any of those on board their vessel, and further pleaded that if the collision was in any way occasioned by any improper navigation of the Schwan, it was occasioned by the default of the pilot in charge, who was employed by compulsion of law. The plaintiffs have succeeded in proving that the collision was occasioned solely by the improper navigation of the defendants' vessel, and the defendants have succeeded in substantiating the defence that the collision was caused by

PLEADINGParticularity required as to Dates of Offences chargedResponsive Plea containing Irrelevant Matter.

ECCLESIASTICAL LAWInscription on a gravestoneRight of the Incumbent of a Parish to prohibit Erection of a Gravestone in the Parish Churchyard.
July 31. SIR ROBERT PHILLIMORE. This is an appeal from the consistory of Lincoln. The subject of the appeal is the refusal of that Court to grant a faculty for the erection of a tombstone containing the following inscription:— “In loving memory of Annie Augusta Keet, the younger daughter of the Rev. H. Keet, Wesleyan Minister, who died at Owston-Ferry, May 11th, 1874, aged 7 years and 9 months. Safe sheltered from the storms of life.” It appears that the inscription “Wesleyan minister” was not objected to by the incumbent, and was allowed by the Court. The prefix “reverend” was
